Visiting the Gilmer Arts Playhouse

The Gilmer Arts Playhouse resides in Ellijay, Georgia. Founded in 1992 by the non-profit organization Gilmer Arts, the theater hosts the Bringing Ellijay Sensational Talent (B.E.S.T.) performing arts series.

Gilmer Arts features concerts, musical theatre, non-musical theatre, and performers from the Southeast region.

Gilmer Arts strives to enhance residents’ quality of life in Gilmer County and North Georgia. They state that their organization’s mission is “to promote passionate interest and active participation in the arts. We provide educational opportunities and sensational events in the visual, literary, and performing arts for the people of Gilmer County and the surrounding area.”

After creating the B.E.S.T. series, the non-profit started the Gilmer Arts Community Chorus, the Gilmer Arts Players, and the Arts Community Theatre.

The Gilmer Arts Playhouse recently moved from its former Hawthorne Hall location to its current venue in Downtown Ellijay in the fall of 2017.

There are several performances throughout the year at the playhouse. Four times each year, the B.E.S.T. series brings new award-winning international performers to the stage.

The Gilmer Arts Community Chorus puts on two concerts a year directed by choir professionals from the southeastern United States. The Gilmer Arts Players also perform several dinner and community theatre performances a year.

Each month, the theatre has an “open mic” night. Called “Acoustic Blends,” talent from the area can get on stage and display their skills.

When Is the Theater Open?

The Gilmer Arts Playhouse is open from 11 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Friday. On Saturday, the theater operates from 1 pm to 10 pm. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.

These hours of operation are year-round.

The theater has numerous amenities and is accessible for those with disabilities. Complimentary parking is available on site, and there are several types of facilities. There are areas for meetings and parties.

Several concession stands exist throughout the theater, in addition to public restrooms and a dance floor. There are maps and brochures on-site to help you get around and see what upcoming shows are available.
