Visiting EXPEDITION:BIGFOOT! The Sasquatch Museum In Cherry Log

From around the world and across the United States, the legends can be traced back through generations - the Yeti of the Himalayas, the Yowie of Australia, the Yeren of China, El Cuatlacas of Mexico, the Alma of Russia, Florida's Skunk Ape, and Missouri's Momo (just to name a few) - but around here, we call it Bigfoot, or Sasquatch if you're feeling fancy! In fact, some refer to the North Georgia area and the foothills of the Appalachians as ground zero for tracking the mythical beast.

Just 10-15 minutes from either Blue Ridge or Ellijay in Cherry Log, you'll find EXPEDITION:BIGFOOT! The Sasquatch Museum - and this hidden gem is ready to shed some light on a long-debated, cryptid subject, and maybe even make a believer out of you!

It’s Not Your Average “Roadside Attraction”

Founded by Bigfoot researcher David Bakara and his wife, Malinda, Expedition Bigfoot is home to the world's largest permanent display of genuine Sasquatch artifacts, including life-size exhibits, Bigfoot sighting maps, and the world's only Bigfoot Research and Tech vehicle, previously used by the Bakaras on research missions in Florida.

Bakara was long ago influenced by the 1972 film, The Legend of Boggy Creek, which centered quite seriously on the stalking of an Arkansas family by a Bigfoot, and in 2016 Bakara brought his lifelong obsession to the Blue Ridge mountain wilderness, opening the Bigfoot museum and research facility to welcome cryptozoologists, Bigfoot aficionados, skeptics, and guests of all ages who wish to share their own experiences and encounters or simply satisfy their curiosities.

The 4,000-square foot facility houses the Sasquatch Theater, a Bigfoot reference library, where truth-seekers can pore over newspaper articles, documented sightings, sketches, and molded casts of gargantuan handprints, footprints, and even a Bigfoot "butt-print"!

The Truth Is Out There

Bakara is a member of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization. Founded in 1995, the BFRO is "the only scientific research organization exploring the Bigfoot/Sasquatch mystery". The BFRO community includes scientists, journalists, and specialists from diverse backgrounds, and their painstaking contributions are here on full display. The entire exhibit is rooted in science, with a little artistic flair for that visual appeal. The museum is fully immersive, with listening stations broadcasting Bigfoot grunts and howls, and video monitors that loop eyewitness accounts.

You can explore the exhibits of Expedition Bigfoot in about an hour, but if you really have an interest in unfurling the mystery and gaining some insight on one of the world's greatest mysteries, plan on allowing for much more time to truly dig into the subject matter, and maybe even have a chat with David and Malinda!

The museum's gift shop offers plenty of wacky, fun souvenir options, as well as tools and kits to embark on your own search for Bigfoot! Expedition Bigfoot welcomes about 50,000 visitors each year, with an original experience you can only find on a North Georgia getaway. It's a great museum that's sure to appeal to the entire family, and the perfect family attraction for a rainy day visit before a ‘squatching expedition of your own! The list of Georgia Bigfoot sightings, documented by the BFRO should provide a few pointers on where to begin, or check out these remote Georgia campgrounds for Sasquatch activity before returning to the safety of your luxury mountain rental cabin!
