With average temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to mid-70s and the lows rarely getting below 40F (perfect for a cozy bonfire at your Blue Sky Vacation Rental), this time of year is an outdoor lover’s paradise.
As Ellijay leaves February behind, the weather tends to be fairly mild, with not much precipitation. With daylight saving time always beginning on the second Sunday in March, you’re sure to enjoy the sunshine and sunset over the mountains as the days get longer.

Whether you’re a novice hiker or can climb mountains with the best of em,’ the Blue Ridge Mountains have something for everyone. The following are some of our favorite trails!
- Tumbling Waters Trail - easy to moderate 1 mile out and back trail with views of a gorgeous waterfall and multiple spots for river access if you want to get your feet wet!
- Blood Mountain Trail - a more strenuous 4.7 mile hike that leads to an incredible lookout and the highest Georgia summit on the Appalachian Trail. This hike is a bit of a drive to the start, but worth it for beautiful views! Make sure to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the top!
- Benton MacKaye, Owens Overlook and Appalachian Trail Loop - a 4.2 mile moderate hike that boasts a beautiful and peaceful walk through a scenic forest alongside Springer Mountain. If you’re feeling more adventurous and want to hike to the top of the Mountain, there is a spur trail that will take you there.
- Cartecay River Loop Trail - a moderate 3.7 mile loop that will take you along the river for serene sights and sounds. A picnic lunch would also be a great idea for this hike!
- Bear Creek Trail - a moderate 1.9-5.5 mile hike, depending on the type of activity you are wanting for the day. This trail winds along a peaceful, mossy, fern-filled creek valley to the Gennet Poplar, which is the second largest living tree in Georgia, measuring over 18 feet at its base!
