February Weather in Ellijay
February weather is slightly warmer than January in Ellijay, Georgia. The average high temperatures are in the high 50’s, with lows in the high 30’s. There is increased cloud cover during February, considered the “windiest month,” with higher average wind speeds than other times of the year.
Even with the wind and cloud coverage, the mild average temperatures provide the perfect backdrop for both indoor and outdoor activities.
Per the weather data, snow is unlikely during February due to low precipitation. While there is a low chance for snow, there have been a few flurries a time or two this month, so it's not impossible. And even if the weather forecast doesn’t call for it, there are North Georgia destinations that make their own snow!
February Things to Do in Ellijay
1. Visit Local Wineries

If your perfect February day involves wine tasting in the North Georgia mountains, we’ve got you covered. Ellijay is surrounded by many award-winning wineries offering delicious local wines with incredible mountain views. Many of them have indoor tasting rooms, making it the perfect way to cozy up while still enjoying the surrounding scenery.
Cartecay Vineyards and Roo Mountain Vineyards are both local vineyards that offer beautiful tasting rooms, delicious local wine, and live music on the weekends. For a day trip idea, head to Fainting Goat Vineyards in neighboring Jasper, GA, for a lively atmosphere and incredible wine.
2. Hike the Appalachian Trail

Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, the mountain town of Ellijay is surrounded by incredible hiking trails, from family-friendly day hikes to more challenging treks along the AT.
The Appalachian Trail, the most-traveled hiking trail in the country, begins near Ellijay at the base of Springer Mountain. If you’re looking for a challenging hike, we suggest hiking the 16-mile trailhead that begins at Amicalola Falls State Park and ends at the top of Stringer Mountain.
From here, you can head to Amicalola Falls to see the tallest waterfall in Georgia.
We recommend checking weather conditions before you head out. Some trailheads are closed during the winter. And be sure to wear proper winter hiking gear for a fun and safe hiking trip!
3. Stroll Downtown Ellijay

There is nothing more idyllic on a cold winter day than grabbing a cup of hot cocoa and wandering around Downtown Ellijay. The quaint Downtown square is home to local shops, family-owned eateries, antique stores, and more. Here are a few of our favorite local spots:
- For local food and drink options, we recommend heading to Cantaberry Restaurant, Mountain Town Coffee, or The Hitching Post. There are tons of Downtown restaurants, so be sure to check out our full guide.
- For local shops and antique stores, head to Artful Ellijay, Misty Hollow Antiques, and Main Street Antiques Mall.
- For unique experiences and local shows, we love visiting Tabor House & Civil War Museum or catching a show at George Link, Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse.
4. Take A Day Trip to Neighboring Towns

Ellijay is surrounded by plenty of neighboring mountain towns that offer unique and fun-filled activities to explore.
Just a 10-minute drive, Cherry Log is home to Expedition Bigfoot! The Sasquatch Museum is an interactive, one-of-a-kind museum for the whole family to enjoy. Drive a little further, and you’ll reach Blue Ridge, home to countless shops, restaurants, museums, and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. The railway attracts families from all over to enjoy an adventurous train ride through the North Georgia mountains.
North Georgia is home to countless small towns, so enjoy a scenic ride through the mountains and discover all of the charm the area offers. And if you’re looking for a fun day in the city, Atlanta, Georgia, and Chattanooga, Tennessee are quick drives from Ellijay.
2025 February Events in Ellijay, Georgia
While February may be a quieter time in Ellijay, there are plenty of regular events throughout the year. Cartecay Vineyards hosts live music performances most weekends, so be sure to check their upcoming events calendar.
Rally Point Grille offers Warrior Wednesday discounts for veterans and Thursday wing specials. Many other Downtown spots offer year-round events, giving you plenty of options during your stay.
