Every season in Blue Ridge, Georgia, offers something special, but June might be one of our favorite months of the year.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are bursting with lush mountain views, flowing waterfalls, and hiking trails full of wildflowers this time of year. The weather is perfect for outdoor adventures, water activities, and hopping from one outdoor brewery to the next. No matter what type of getaway you are looking for, summertime in Blue Ridge offers something for everyone.

Getting to Blue Ridge, GA

Blue Ridge is located in the North Georgia mountains, just south of Tennessee. Visitors can take the scenic drive to Blue Ridge from surrounding cities, including Atlanta (2 hours), Chattanooga (2 hours), and Knoxville (2.5 hours).

Once you’re in Blue Ridge, you’ll need a vehicle to get to the many hiking trails, state parks, wineries, and restaurants nearby. We recommend a four-wheel drive for the steep mountainous drives. There are also many neighboring mountain towns you may want to explore, including Ellijay and Morganton.

June offers the ideal mild summer weather. The average temperatures range from highs in the 80s to lows in the 60s. Humidity begins to pick up towards the end of June, but it still allows for cool mornings and nights.

June weather is just warm enough to enjoy all of the fun water activities nearby while being cool enough for day hikes and outdoor adventures. It’s truly the perfect combination. We recommend packing layers for those cooler mornings and warmer days. Be sure also to include a rain jacket, as rain is possible in June.

Have a Day of Fun on the Toccoa River

Just south of Blue Ridge, the Toccoa River is the ideal destination for a full day of water activities.

The Toccoa River Canoe Trail is the perfect spot for canoeing and kayaking. Launch from the Deep Hole Recreation Area and enjoy 13.8 miles of peaceful river before ending up at Toccoa River Sandy Bottoms Recreation Area. For rentals or guided trips, we recommend Blue Ridge Mountain Kayaking.

Toccoa River is also famous for its trout fishing opportunities, along with other local spots like Lake Blue Ridge and Noontootla Creek. Fly fishing is one of the most popular summer activities for good reason. Check out Toccoa River Outfitters for guided fly fishing trips on the river.

Go Waterfall Chasing

The North Georgia mountains are home to over 100 stunning waterfalls of various varieties. June is the perfect time to enjoy mild hiking weather and a rewarding waterfall to cool off at the end.

Blue Ridge has many nearby waterfall trails, including Long Creek Falls at the southern tip of the Appalachian Trail. This 2-mile roundtrip waterfall hike in Three Forks Valley is a short, challenging hike through lush forests that leads to a cascading waterfall.

Fall Branch Falls is another nearby waterfall hike. The .5-mile hike is short and easy, perfect for people of all ages. The trail ends in double waterfalls cascading down tall boulders.
 

Pick Blueberries at Mercier Orchards

Mercier Orchards is a family-owned orchard offering U-Pick activities, wine tastings, and fresh goods at their market.

While they are known as the largest apple orchard in the Southeast, they also grow a variety of blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries on their farm. And what’s in season in June? Blueberries! U-Pick weekends take place throughout June, offering visitors the chance to bring delicious blueberries home.

While there, stock up on baked goods, produce, jams, spices, and more at the Mercier Market. The bakery features fruit from its orchard in delicious pies and fritters. It also serves lunch at its cafe.

Mercier Orchards is a must-visit for delicious food, beautiful scenery, and an abundance of blueberries.
 

Go Whitewater Rafting

Blue Ridge is the perfect home base for all of the nearby whitewater rafting adventures. While there are no official rapids on the Toccoa River, it's an excellent place for beginners and children under 12 to learn how to whitewater raft on gentle waves.

If you want more adventure, head to the Ocoee River in Tennessee for the ultimate whitewater rafting trip. Children must be 12 and up to participate.

Located in McCaysville (10 miles north of Blue Ridge), Rolling Thunder River Company offers rentals and guided whitewater rafting trips on the Toccoa and Ocoee Rivers. They’ll ensure you have everything you need for a full day of whitewater rafting.
 

Stroll Downtown Blue Ridge

Downtown Blue Ridge is the perfect place to wind down after a day of outdoor adventures. Main Street is packed with unique stores, local goods, restaurants, and bars.

Shop til you drop at our favorite local stores, including

Head to The Dogwood for casual food or The Black Sheep for more upscale dining. Stroll the street and pop into the many art galleries and breweries along Main Street. And end the day with sweet treats at Mona Lisa’s Dessert House.
